Humming Bird

Whirling and zooming in the great blue sky,
These fast-fluttering birds are born lean and spry,
They are like speckled jewels flying this way and that,
The buzz of their wings is like classroom chit-chat,
they are here for a second and then they are gone,
And bright colored flowers are what they feed upon.
But if not fed,
They will be on their deathbed,
For you see,
If they can no longer can find the nectar that they need to be,
They will no longer be seen,
But what is to know about this creature’s flight
Flying north, south, west, east, left and right?
2,000 calories are burned each day,
And away from the road of life they may stray,
So they must eat half of their body weight,
In order not to be,
Death’s bait.
